The relentless storms have been wreaking havoc. Heavy rains and winds have been causing major issues all over the state.

At our property, we’ve already lost five mature oak trees to the wet and windy conditions. A few of them have come right up out of the ground because the soil is so saturated. Luckily, we haven’t experienced any damage to our structures.

If you’re experiencing property damage and destruction, here are a few tips on how to to deal with it:

Take photos and document damaged and destroyed property, if you can safely access it.

Focus on taking a complete inventory and valuing all damage and costs to repair or replace your property.

Keep a detailed list of conversations with insurance, repair, and other professionals for your records.

Make sure you advocate for yourself when dealing with your home and/or flood insurance provider. Reach out to the CA Department of Insurance or other trusted professionals if you feel like you’re not being treated fairly.

If the insurance adjuster tells you the damage isn’t covered, but you feel it should be, seek an opinion from an independent professional before giving up on your claim.

I’m here to help you if you need recommendations for a contractor, tree trimmer, hauler, etc. Stay safe out there!
