Why I moved (back) to Placer County

Growing Up in Placer County

I grew up in Granite Bay, a small and peaceful community in Placer County. It sits on the west shore of Folsom Lake, east of Roseville. I always describe it as being about 30 minutes out of Sacramento, off I-80 on your way to Tahoe.

My family came to the area (by way of East Sacramento) when I was just 2 years old. Back then, it was mostly rural – more empty fields than neighborhoods. We moved here because of the great public schools in the area.

Making the Move Back Home from the Bay Area

After college, I moved to San Francisco and then to Marin. I absolutely loved our life in the Bay Area, but between the cost of housing and childcare, it felt impossible to stay as our family grew. Remote work opportunities made it possible for my husband to keep his job while I restarted my real estate business.

We landed in the town of Loomis, which is just outside of Granite Bay, alongside I-80. It’s a rural and charming community with a small-town feel, while still being close to everything.

Here are my favorite things about life in Granite Bay & Loomis:

  • Convenient lifestyle – Granite Bay and Loomis are small, peaceful towns, but they’re close to every store and amenity you could think of in the larger surrounding cities. There is also no traffic to speak of and easy parking everywhere you go. I always felt frazzled driving around the Bay Area, and it’s just easy here.

  • Space – Whether you’re looking for a spacious house or a big piece of property, there is plenty of elbow room here! The options range from gated suburban neighborhoods to rural country living.

  • Great Public Schools – The public school systems in Granite Bay and Loomis are fantastic. Granite Bay High School is rated 10/10 on GreatSchools.org and Del Oro High School, the high school that serves Loomis, is rated 9/10.

  • Centrally located – It’s easy to hop on the freeway and head to the Bay Area or Tahoe. Sacramento is also just about 30 minutes away.

  • Outdoor Activities – The outdoor recreation options are endless in Placer County! Loomis and Granite Bay sit right next to Folsom Lake and the American River bike trail, which are great spots for hiking, mountain biking, trail riding, boating, fishing, and more! If golf is your thing, Granite Bay Golf Club is one of the best golf courses in the region. Opened in 1994, Granite Bay GC was voted to be on the “Top Ten” List of Best New Private Courses in the US by Golf Digest. Other fun activities include paddle boarding  and kayaking on Lake Natoma in neighboring Folsom. Or head up to Auburn with stunning hiking trails. Granite Bay and Loomis are also less than two hours from Lake Tahoe.

Uprooting your family and moving to a different city is intimidating and super stressful. Especially if you’re moving to an area you’re not familiar with. As a top-producing Realtor with lifelong roots in the area, I help sophisticated buyers and sellers stand out in today’s ever-changing market. If you’re considering a move to Granite Bay and Loomis, consider me your official tour guide, and Granite Bay and Loomis hype girl!

Whether you’re buying or selling in Granite Bay or Loomis, I’ll make sure you have a competitive edge.
